Dear John:

My husband and I bought a FridgeFreeze in July of 2005. After doing what we thought was lots of research, we bought a unit locally (not a FridgeFreeze), When we went to use it, we were frustrated and disappointed to find that the 3.8 amp draw advertised in all the literature was actually a 7.3 amp draw on the specs plate. This was more than we had planned to ask our sailboat battery to sustain. The 3.8 advertised draw was actually (we checked with the company) an AVERAGE PER HOUR draw as the unit was not supposed to run constantly - kind of like a car company telling you that your fuel consumption would be an average of "X" per hour and basing that on the average of people only driving 5 or 6 hours in a 24 hour day. Needless to say, we were not impressed and returned the unit.

We had seen an article in Pacific Yachting earlier in the year about new things on or coming to the market and the FridgeFreeze was one of them.

We were concerned about this being a "NEW" (therefore unproven) product, about it being only available from the factory, no service centres locally, etc. But, as we were due to head out that week for 6 weeks of sailing, and finding nothing else that seemed to fit the bill, we ordered the 35 litre unit and hoped for the best.

The unit arrived 2 days later and certainly looked solid. It is. We plugged it in overnight, took it to the boat the next day and filled it with frozen foods and left for our trip. All trips have little breakdowns, things forgotten, too much of some stuff brought and not enough of other stuff. However, the FridgeFreeze was almost boring! It performed exactly as advertised, and it is so quiet that several times we checked to see if the light was on because we could not hear the unit when it was running. It is a large thing, and we simply installed it on a seat we didn't need so that it would be handy. We use an icebox for our daily things, and took frozen milk in plastic 2 litre containers that we used as "ice" for our icebox. As we used the milk, we filled the containers with water and put them in the bottom of the FridgeFreeze where they froze solid. We kept rotating the containers so that we had ice in the icebox and a new supply being frozen.

Had a great trip and the FridgeFreeze certainly contributed to that. Once you are above Desolation Sound in British Columbia waters, you can't simply pop into a marina to pick up ice and food. Being self sufficient meant not having to plan our trip around anything but the weather and the fishing.

We are very, very happy with our FridgeFreeze and want to thank you for making such a dependable product that actually does what you say it will do!

If you are ever in the area, pop in - we always have ice!

Sincerely,

Mary-Lou Warren
